WONDER LAKE – A 27-year-old Wonder Lake man accused of punching and head-butting a pregnant woman appeared in court Thursday morning.
Brian J. Kirchner, of the 7900 block of White Oaks Road, was charged with aggravated battery to a pregnant person and domestic battery. The most serious offense, aggravated battery to a pregnant person, is a felony typically punishable by two to five years in prison.
On Thursday, attorneys continued Kirchner’s case to Jan. 5.
On Dec. 5, Kirchner pushed a pregnant woman to the ground before head-butting her in the nose and right eye, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County.
He then proceeded to punch the back of the woman’s head despite knowing she was pregnant, the complaint stated.
Representatives from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached by phone to comment on further details, including how far along in her pregnancy the woman was and whether the woman and child are OK.
Kirchner was arrested on a warrant Monday and booked at the McHenry County Jail.
Judge Robert Wilbrandt set Kirchner’s bond at $20,000 Tuesday morning. He posted $2,000 bail later that day and was released from jail.
As a condition of his release, Kirchner is barred from having any contact with the woman he is accused of attacking while the case is ongoing, according to a judge’s order
