Ernd moved up one weight class and took on Keenan Brummett, 18-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class 2A at 145 pounds by iwcoa.net. Ernd pinned Brummett in 2:24 to end the match, giving the Tigers a 53-16 winning margin.
4: The number of matches out of five that Harvard won in one stretch, from 220 pounds to 120. Central got a forfeit win at 285, Harvard got a forfeit at 106, but the Hornets won the other three on the mat with Francisco Quinones (220), Blake Bieschke (113) and Uriel Herrera (120).
AND ANOTHER THING...
Central coach Justen Lehr and Harvard coach Dave Schultz were high school teammates at Harvard and graduated together in 2001.
“Justen’s a good guy, I like hanging out with him,” Schultz said. “I like the ability to come here and wrestle them because they’re a good team and they’re going to push our guys.”
This was the first time the teams had wrested in a couple years.
“We needed to get back to doing it,” Lehr said. “I went to school with (Harvard athletic director) Matt Rife, too. It’s fun getting to see those guys.”
