High school wrestling roundup: Huntley sends three to semifinals at Al Dvorak Invite

Huntley's Juan Quiroz, Justin Allen and Sammy Spencer advanced to the championship bracket semifinals at the 30th Harlem Al Dvorak Invitational in Machesney Park on Friday.

The Red Raiders enter Saturday trailing only LaSalle (Cincinnati, Ohio) in points with 107. LaSalle leads the 35-team field with 137.5 points, Crystal Lake Central (64.5) is 14th, and Jacobs (35.5) is 27th.

Quiroz finished 3-0 for the Red Raiders at 170 pounds and picked up wins by technical fall, decision and pin. Justin Allen (195) went 3-0 with two pins and a decision, and Spencer received a first-round bye at 113 pounds and finished 2-0 to clinch a spot in the semifinals.

Caden Ernd (132), Austin Ernd (138), Brenden Parks (152) and Braden Bisram (182) each won three matches for the Tigers, and Liam O'Donnell advanced to the quarterfinals at 195 pounds before losing by technical fall.

Jake Harrier advanced to the 120-pound semifinals for Jacobs, receiving a first-round bye and going 2-0 with a decision and major decision. Justin Peters (113) recorded pins in his first two matches, but lost in the quarterfinals by tech fall.

McHenry Quad: At McHenry, the Warriors finished 1-2 with a 42-27 win over Johnsburg and losses to Woodstock North, 42-34, and Warren, 54-21. Earning two wins apiece for McHenry (5-12) were Zach Seymour (106), Anthony Lawrence (138), Jake Leske (182), Jerry Arreola (195), Geoff Cagle (220) and Zach Wiese (285).

Woodstock North's Carter Miller (113) and Jake Finch (132) had pins against McHenry, Nicco Mazzanti (145) had a major decision, Ed Flores (152) won by technical fall, and Aaron Montgomery (160), Brian Kline (170) and Zakary Johnson (285) won by decision.

Johnsburg's Ethan Shedbalkar (145) recorded a pin against McHenry, while Matt Tobin (152), Justin Peake (170) and Austin Butler (182) all won by decision for the Skyhawks.

Marian Central Triangular: At Landers Pavilion in Woodstock, the Hurricanes – ranked No. 11 in Class 2A – defeated Rochelle, 45-28, and Harvard, 52-19, moving to 19-2 on the season. Marian's only two losses have come against Aurora Christian and Glenbard East. Aurora Christian is ranked second in Class 1A.
