McHENRY – A 22-year-old man died Tuesday in a car crash about a half-mile west of Valley View Elementary School on Route 120 in McHenry.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was dispatched at 12:21 a.m. to the 6900 block of Route 120, where first responders found a newer model Ford sedan with heavy damage after it crashed into a telephone pole.
Firefighters found two men, ages 20 and 22, at the scene. The men were traveling in the same vehicle, which had been in what appeared to be single-vehicle crash, a fire official said.
“The 22-year-old was ejected from the vehicle,” Battalion Chief Dave Harwood said. “He was not in the vehicle when we got there.”
Harwood said the 22-year-old man died at Centegra Hospital – McHenry. The 20-year-old also was taken there with injuries not considered life-threatening.
McHenry police sent out an automated alert at 12:47 a.m. that said the road was closed, and another alert was sent at 4:41 a.m. saying it was open.
Harwood said that based on the district’s report at the scene, there was no obvious cause of the crash.
McHenry police are investigating. A phone call Tuesday morning to the department was not returned.
