McHenry woman sent to hospital

WAUCONDA TOWNSHIP – The Lake County coroner has identified a man killed in a car crash Sunday night.

Alan Bern, 33, of Lakemoor died of traumatic injuries after losing control of his vehicle in Wauconda Township, officials said. A toxicology report is pending.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:55 p.m. Sunday to the area of
Route 120 and Fisher Road in Wauconda Township for a car crash, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation shows that Bern was driving a Ford Taurus east on Route 120 and lost control of the vehicle, sliding sideways into the westbound lanes of traffic.

Bern was struck on the passenger side by a 58-year-old McHenry woman driving a Nissan Rogue west on Route 120, police said.

Bern was not wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The McHenry woman was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash.
