Autopsy results revealed Jose Luis Ortiz Reyes of Wonder Lake died Tuesday morning of blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said.
Toxicology results are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was dispatched at
12:21 a.m. to the 6900 block of Route 120, where first responders found a newer model Ford sedan with heavy damage after it crashed into a telephone pole.
Firefighters found two men, ages 20 and 22, at the scene. The men were traveling in the same vehicle, which had been in what appeared to be single-vehicle crash, a fire official said.
Ortiz Reyes was ejected from the vehicle, Battalion Chief Dave Harwood said.
At 12:55 a.m., Ortiz Reyes died at Centegra Hospital – McHenry. The 20-year-old also was taken there with injuries not considered life-threatening, fire officials said.
The crash closed Route 120 for several hours Tuesday morning, police said.
Harwood said that based on the district’s report at the scene, there was no obvious cause of the crash.
As of Wednesday night, McHenry police did not have an update on whether any charges will be filed or how the crash occurred.
