Bicyclist killed in Tuesday crash ID'd as Fox Lake man

Incident remains under investigation

FOX LAKE – A 55-year-old man who died Tuesday after a crash on Route 12 was identified Thursday afternoon as Kevin McKenzie of Fox Lake.

The driver of a Saturn car struck McKenzie, who was riding his bike at 7:44 a.m. Tuesday on Route 12 near Riverside Island Drive, Fox Lake police said. The 46-year-old woman driving the Saturn was not injured.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy Wednesday on McKenzie and released his name Thursday. The office’s results indicate that McKenzie died from multiple traumatic injuries related to the crash.

The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is assisting with the investigation of the crash. The incident remains under investigation. 

The crash caused traffic backups and detours, as Route 12 was closed for several hours Tuesday.
