High school girls basketball roundup: Marian Central stays perfect at Grant Holiday Tournament

Marian Central wasted no time seizing control against North Chicago on Thursday at the Grant Holiday Tournament in Fox Lake en route to a 53-17 win.

The Hurricanes ensured a 3-0 start to the tournament by outscoring North Chicago, 20-2, in the first quarter.

Vannessa Garrelts and Katherine Littner each scored nine points to top Marian (11-6). Lindsey Bahl added eight points, Janelle Allen scored seven points, and Regan Dineen had six.

The Hurricanes will play again at 7 p.m. Saturday.

McHenry 89, Milwaukee Bay View (Wisconsin) 41: At Milwaukee, Aannah Interrante connected for six 3-pointers and finished with 28 points as the Warriors won their 12th straight.

Liz Alsot contributed 17 points for McHenry (16-1), which scored 79 points in the first three quarters. Ava Interrante pitched in 14 points, and Izzy Gscheidle drained three 3s for nine points.

Dundee-Crown 46, Resurrection 33: At the Charger-Komaromy Christmas Classic in Carpentersville, the host Chargers improved to 2-1 in tournament action with their second straight win behind 13 points and seven rebounds from Gianine Boado, who hit three 3-pointers.

Alyssa Crenshaw chipped in with 11 points for D-C (10-5), Katelyn Skibinski added 10 points, and Cassidy Randl had seven rebounds.

The Chargers play Hampshire at 2 p.m. Friday in the consolation championship.

Hampshire 59, Prospect 50: At the Charger-Komaromy Christmas Classic in Carpentersville, the Whip-Purs outscored Prospect, 16-8, in the third quarter to ensure their second consecutive win in the consolation bracket.

Kelby Bannerman led Hampshire (7-9) with a team-high 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Lauren Herrman contributed 12 points to the win, Morgan Haefling had eight points, and Ally Cermak and McKenzie Rasmussen each scored six points.

Oak Park-River Forest 42, Huntley 29: at the Montini Christmas Tournament in Lombard, Kamsi Nwogu scored 16 points in a loss for the Red Raiders.

Madison Wash and Bridget Bigden each added four points. Huntley (1-11) will take on Batavia at 9:45 a.m. Friday.

Jacobs 46, Elgin 28: At the Wheaton North Falcon Classic, the Golden Eagles improved to 1-2 in tournament play with a victory.

Jacobs (5-8) closes out its tournament at 10:30 a.m. Friday against Glenbard North.
