HUNTLEY – McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Huntley Fire Protection District officials responded Thursday night to the 12000 block of North Lakeview Drive in Huntley for reports of a car submerged in a small lake.
Huntley firefighters were called to the scene about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to dispatches.
A woman drove a car into the water, got out, went to a nearby home and changed clothes before calling authorities, Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tim Flannigan said Friday. He said the woman was not taken to the hospital.
Tracks were visible near the lake Friday morning that appeared to weave between the trees of a front yard, travel into a home’s backyard and out onto the lake, which was covered in ice. A large hole was apparent on the lake’s southwest end.
Alexandra Sitko lives in the home where the tracks were visible and said she was not home at the time the incident occurred, but her two parents who were home did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
The sheriff’s office didn’t immediately respond to requests for information Friday. Huntley Deputy Police Chief Michael Klunk said he couldn’t comment on the incident because the sheriff’s office handled the call.
