Cary-Grove's Cadin Koeppel earned a 3-1 decision Friday over McHenry's Geoff Cagle to capture the 220-pound title at the Mid-States Wrestling Classic at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Koeppel's victory helped the Trojans to a ninth-place finish out of 43 teams with 155 points. McHenry finished one spot behind with 150.5 points. Gurnee Warren won the team title with 239.5 points. Dundee-Crown (119) came in 19th, and Harvard (99) finished 22nd.
McHenry's Jake Leske secured the 182-pound title with a 7-2 decision against Elkhorn's (Wisconsin) Myles Schumaker. Teammate Jerry Arreola dropped an 8-2 decision to Appleton (Wisconsin) North's Brock Danielski at 195 pounds to finish second. Anthony Lawrence finished sixth at 138.
D-C's Isiah Ziegler pinned Janesville (Wisconsin) Craig's Keeanu Benton at 3:21 to win the 285-pound class. Gabriel Scales took seventh at 126.
C-G's Adam Pinter came away with a 5-1 decision for fifth place at 132 pounds. Brad Peters and Isaac Rands took seventh at 152 and 160, respectively.
Harvard's Keenam Brummett finished seventh at 145 pounds.
