High school girls basketball roundup: Marian Central routs host Grant for Grant Holiday Tournament title; Garrelts named MVP

Vannessa Garrelts poured in 27 points on 10 field goals and netted MVP honors for Marian Central on Saturday in a 60-34 win over Grant at the Grant Holiday Tournament championship in Fox Lake.

Garrelts, a Miami (Ohio) commit, scored nine points in the first quarter and made three 3-pointers in the victory for the Hurricanes (12-6), who went 4-0 in the tournament and have won six of their past seven games overall.

Joining Garrelts from Marian on the all-tournament team were Lindsey Bahl (eight points), Amber Reynolds (seven points) and Janelle Allen (six points). Regan Dineen also tossed in six points in the championship win.

Marian led, 31-22, at halftime and held the host Lady Bulldogs to only 12 points in the third and fourth quarters combined.

St. Joseph 40, Huntley 30: At the Montini Christmas Classic in Lombard, the Red Raiders dropped the seventh-place consolation game, finishing 0-4. Raquel Radermacher led all scorers in the loss for Huntley (1-13), tossing in 11 points and two 3s.

Briana Bower scored nine points, and Sydney Novak and Mallory Moffett each had four.
