CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry County can expect bitter cold weather through the start of the new year, according to the National Weather Service.

McHenry and surrounding counties are under a wind chill advisory from 9 p.m. Sunday through noon Tuesday.

Bitter cold wind chills that could cause frostbite to skin exposed to the elements for as little as 30 minutes, according to the National Weather Service. Hypothermia and frostbite could occur and the service advises individuals to wear a hat and gloves.

Wind chills could dip down to 30 below Sunday night through Tuesday morning, according to the weather service.
