HUNTLEY – Eduardo Espino and Karla Hernandez can expect to see lots of new firsts in 2018 after welcoming their son into the world at 5:11 a.m. Monday.
Hernandez and Espino, of Belvidere, have the honor of announcing McHenry County’s first baby of 2018.
Eduardo Espino – named after his father – was born at Centegra Hospital – Huntley on New Year’s Day.
“It feels great,” Hernandez said.
Eduardo weighed in at 6 pounds,
4 ounces and is 18 inches long. He has a full head of hair and was quiet in his first hours, his dad said.
“He doesn’t really cry much,” Espino said.
The couple has been married for two years and had been planning to expand their family. Eduardo is their first child, and he will join many cousins, Espino said.
The couple arrived at the hospital early Sunday but were told Hernandez wasn’t quite ready for labor.
They returned later in the day, and Eduardo was born after 11 or 12 hours of labor, his father said.
As of the afternoon, Eduardo was one of two babies born Monday in McHenry County. Another child was born at Centegra Hospital – McHenry about 9:30 a.m., hospital officials said.
