McHenry man recently released from jail faces new domestic battery charges

McHENRY – Less than a week after being released from jail on theft charges, a 19-year-old McHenry man is scheduled to appear in court Friday after he allegedly attacked three people last weekend.

Matthew K. Wiese, of the 800 block of Southgate Street, pleaded guilty in McHenry County court to theft and was sentenced to two years of probation. He received credit for 112 days served in the McHenry County Jail.

On Jan. 5, Wiese posted a Facebook status announcing that he was out of jail, and he promised in the comments that he was out for good.

But only four days later, he was arrested by McHenry police and faces new domestic battery charges.

He remained in jail Wednesday afternoon. He must post $1,500 to be released, according to the police complaint.

At 1:06 a.m. Tuesday, Wiese punched a woman in the face, threw her across a table and repeatedly slammed her head against a wall, the complaint stated.

He also is accused of hitting two other women in the face and throwing them to the ground, according to the complaint.

Police were not available to comment on the details about Wiese’s charges or what happened leading up to the alleged attack.

Wiese’s theft conviction stemmed from a November incident where he stole a backpack that contained a Dell laptop, iPad, Apple pencil, Asus tablet and iPod Nano. Complaints from his 2017 arrest also state that he stole a Garmin GPS device.

If Wiese is convicted of domestic battery, he could be sentenced to less than a year in jail. It is unclear whether the new charges could affect his probationary sentence.

He is due in court Friday morning.
