High school boys basketball roundup: Woods scores 30 for Hampshire in OT win against Huntley

Hampshire's Collin Woods exploded for 19 points over the final 12 minutes to lead the Whip-Purs to a 62-61 overtime Fox Valley Conference win against Huntley on Wednesday in Hampshire.

Woods, a sophomore guard, scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and tossed in four more in overtime to give the Whips (3-9 overall, 1-4 FVC) their first conference win of the season. He finished with 30 points on 11 made field goals and a 3, also going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Huntley (3-11, 0-6) led, 34-29, going into the fourth quarter. Hampshire outscored the Red Raiders 24-19 in the fourth and 9-8 in overtime.

J.D. Shaw contributed 19 points and made three 3s for the Whips, and Drew Dalby added six points.

Ryan Sroka led Huntley with 19 points and three 3s, Cory Knipp had 13 points and two 3s, and Uchenna Egekeze had 10 points. Patrick Roppolo scored nine points with a pair of 3s.

Grayslake North 90, Woodstock 64: At James M. Shipley Memorial Gymnasium in Woodstock, the Blue Streaks dropped their opening game of the Lake Zurich Martin Luther King Classic.

Evan Bridges had a team-high 20 points for Woodstock on the strength of six 3-pointers. Mikey Gardner added 10 points and a 3, and Tyler Peake tossed in nine points. David Shinherr and Andrew Adams had seven points apiece, and Carl Anderson had six points on two 3s.

The Streaks (5-9) next play two tournament games against Geneva and Waubonsie Valley on Saturday at Lake Zurich.

Lake Forest Academy 67, Marian Central 53: At Lake Forest, A.J. Golembiewski had 17 points for the Hurricanes (6-9) in the nonconference loss to the Caxys. Kevin Herbst tallied eight points for Marian, and Thomas Menner and Jonny Preston each added seven.

Jacobs 60, Cary-Grove 46: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (13-2, 5-0) stayed perfect in the FVC with a win over the Trojans (6-9, 2-4) and extended their winning streak to 10 games.

Ryan Phillips knocked down four 3s on his way to 19 points to lead Jacobs.

Sam Carhart topped C-G with 13 points.
