Chicago man charged with sexual abuse of Woodstock girl

WOODSTOCK – Police have arrested a 48-year-old Chicago man accused of sexually abusing a young girl under his watch in Woodstock.

Jesse J. Carpenter, of the 500 block of West 14th Place, was arrested Sunday, after a police investigation into a report of sexual abuse, according to a news release from the Woodstock Police Department sent Friday.

Officers were called to a Woodstock home Sunday for a disturbance. When police arrived, they learned Carpenter had been accused of sexually abusing a female relative when her parents weren’t home, according to the release.

The girl was taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, police said.

On Monday, members of the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Woodstock Police Department met. The CAC’s interview with the girl revealed that she had been sexually abused, the news release stated.

Carpenter is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and domestic battery. If he is convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Carpenter could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.

He must post $5,500 bail to be released, jail records show.

His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 22.
