11-year-old Harvard girl taken to hospital after running into moving car on Route 173

HARVARD – An 11-year-old Harvard girl was sent to the hospital Friday morning after running into a moving vehicle on Route 173.

Harvard police responded to a call about the incident at 7:43 a.m. A school bus was traveling east on Diggins Street and a car was traveling west when a girl ran behind the bus and was struck by the side of the car, Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said.

“We really don’t know the circumstances, but there were a group of kids on the side of the road that were having a snowball fight, and we don’t know if she was participating in that or running away, or why she was running,” Bauman said.

The car traveling west did not see the girl running into the road because she ran behind a school bus, Bauman said. She was not being picked up by the school bus.

The girl was taken to Mercy Hospital – Harvard and was complaining of leg pain, Bauman said.
