To the Editor:
Did you hear the one about the domestic terrorist running for McHenry County Board with the help of the guy who wants to be in charge of our elections?
Sorry to say, it's no joke. The joke will be on us if they win.
Orville Brettman, who is running as a Republican in County Board District 6, belonged to a terrorists group called the Legion of Justice. Don't let the name fool you, because where was no justice involved. They broke into the offices of political opponents and intimidated people who didn't hold their extreme views.
Brettman made out OK, though. He got immunity from prosecution for squealing about the Legion's activities to a grand jury. And squeal he did - his testimony filled 60 pages. He also put up his house to bail a South African gun smuggler out of jail, but that's another letter.
Republican County Clerk candidate Joe Tirio believes in Brettman. He wants this terrorist on the County Board, and he wants it bad. Tirio's campaign donated almost $2,000 to Brettman, not even a week after Brettman filed papers with the Illinois State Board of Elections.
It looks like the Legion of Justice is making a comeback.
We don't need to have the Legion of Justice on our County Board, or give the man bankrolling it the authority over McHenry County's electoral process.
