Several McHenry County police agencies will be conducting special patrols to crack down on alcohol- and drug-impaired driving this weekend.
Crystal Lake police advised motorists to designate a sober driver, call for a ride, use public transportation, spend the night where activities are being held and always buckle up to avoid a crash or driving under the influence charge.
Police also asked others to report impaired driving.
Wonder Lake police provided similar advice in a news release.
“We need your help to keep alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers off our roads,” Wonder Lake Police Chief John Crilly said in a statement. “All it takes is a game plan. Before you go to the party, decide if you’re drinking or driving – never do both.”
Crilly said police also will check for compliance with seat belt laws.
Federal grant money from the Illinois Department of Transportation provides local police departments with funds for Super Bowl enforcement.
