Fox Lake Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics

FOX LAKE – The village is encouraging residents to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes by taking the Polar Plunge in Fox Lake.

Participants will plunge into the frigid waters of Nippersink Lake starting at 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at
71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake.

About $18,000 has been raised so far, with 219 participants signed up, according to the event website.

Participants are required to raise a minimum of $100 in donations from family, friends and co-workers to take a dip. People are encouraged to come in costume and form teams of five.

The money collected will benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes from Lake and McHenry counties. Additional incentive prizes will be rewarded to participants who collect $250, $500 and $1,000 in donations.
