Suspect in Fox Lake gas station robbery threatens clerk with knife before stealing cash, police say

Man wore camouflage scarf, outlined eyes with surgical tape

FOX LAKE — Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place early Friday morning in a Fox Lake gas station, in which a man threatened an employee with a knife and fled with cash.

An unknown individual entered the Phillips 66 Company gas station, located at 20 North Route 12, Fox Lake, around 4:40 a.m. Friday, according to a news release from the Fox Lake Police Department.

The person then threatened the station's clerk with a knife and presented a note demanding money. The employee gave the suspect a small amount of cash, and the individual fled on foot.

The suspected armed robber was described as a 20- to 30-year-old man, who was 5-feet 9-inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a camouflage scarf that covered his mouth and nose, a gray fleece hooded sweatshirt and blue or green cargo-style pants.

The man also had what appeared to be surgical tape, cut into strips and outlining his eyes, according to the release.

He was last seen leaving the gas station south on foot.

Police ask for the public's assistance in identifying the individual and for any other information that might lead to his arrest.
