The boy, who was a passenger, was able to get out of the car himself after it slid sideways, rolled through a resident’s front yard and crashed into several trees about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 14800 block of Hemmingsen Road, police and fire officials said.
Union firefighters had to cut the roof and one of the car’s doors to free its driver, an 18-year-old Algonquin man, who was seriously injured in the crash.
The driver suffered leg and head injuries, Union Assistant Fire Chief Tim Camp said.
He eventually was flown to an area hospital by Flight for Life, and the boy was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers said she did not have updated conditions for either of the vehicle’s occupants Tuesday, and no citations had been filed.
Speed was a factor in the crash, Rogers said.
