High school boys basketball roundup: Dundee-Crown runs FVC winning streak to seven games

McHenry beats Huntley to stop two-game skid

Gabe Bergeron poured in 17 points and Jack Orndahl tacked on 15 more Friday as Dundee-Crown extended its Fox Valley Conference winning streak to seven games with a 55-53 victory over Crystal Lake Central in Crystal Lake.

Jordan Hairston added seven points for the Chargers (14-11, 11-4 FVC), and Jack Michalski supplied six points.

Alex Timmerman went 10 of 11 from the free-throw line and led Central (15-10, 9-6) with 19 points. C.J. Lerum followed with 10 points, and Colton Haviland scored nine points.

Jacobs 59, Prairie Ridge 29: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (22-3, 14-0) won their 22nd consecutive FVC game with a victory over the Wolves (8-16, 4-10) at the Eagles’ Nest.

Matt McCoy hit four 3s and scored 12 points for Jacobs. Kameron Mack tied McCoy for team-high honors, while Nik Balkcom added 10 points and Josh Volenec scored eight.

McHenry 67, Huntley 58: At McHenry, the Warriors (18-8, 10-4) ended a two-game losing streak with their win over the Red Raiders (6-20, 2-12).

Gavin Markgraff hit three 3s and led McHenry with 22 points. Maki Mohr tossed in 17, Patrick Breisch added 13 and Gio Calabrese had 11, with three 3s.

Uchenne Egekeze scored 14 points to lead Huntley. Ryan Crosby tossed in three 3s for nine points and Ryan Sroka also scored nine.

Crystal Lake South 62, Hampshire 51: At Hampshire, the Gators picked up their 10th win of the season behind 15 points from Kyle Leva and Jack Murphy, who hit four 3-pointers in the FVC win.

South (10-14, 6-8 FVC) also received 13 points from Tyler Haskin, and Jonathan Holloway scored seven points.

Jon Westerlund paced Hampshire (5-21, 1-13) with 10 points. Marcus Lazar and J.D. Shaw each provided nine points.

Woodstock 61, Woodstock North 56: At Woodstock, Carl Anderson scored 18 points and Evan Bridges added 17 as the Blue Streaks (7-18, 3-7) won their Kishwaukee River Conference game over the Thunder (6-16, 3-7).

Bridges made five 3s, Anderson hit four. The Streaks outscored North, 32-23, in the second half and sealed the game with 10-of-12 free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter.

Thunder forward Collin Mergl scored 13 points in his first game of the season. Mergl suffered a broken leg late in the football season and recently returned for basketball.

Matt Fallaw and Zach White each scored 10 points for the Thunder.

Marengo 64, Harvard 45: At Marengo, 11 different Indians scored as Marengo cruised to a Kishwaukee River Conference win.

Alejandro Rodriguez led the Indians (14-9, 5-5 KRC) with 10 points. Brock Bertrand, Aidan Kirchner, Alex Schirmer and Blaine Borhart each had eight points. Aiden Smith added seven points in the win.

Dylan Stephens scored a game-high 20 points for Harvard (5-20, 0-10). Pablo Peralta contributed 11 points, and Andrew Cooke had eight points.

Marian Catholic 65, Marian Central 40: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes suffered an East Suburban Conference loss to Marian Catholic.

A.J. Golembiewski topped Marian Central (8-17, 0-7 ESCC) with 12 points, Jakub Baranski scored 11 points, and Kevin Herbst added seven points.
