At every screening so far there has been at least one person with elevated numbers for either cholesterol, blood sugar or blood pressure, Waggoner said.
“Some are surprised when their numbers are not within range as they had no physical symptoms,” she said. “However, we do remind them that this is a screening and encourage them to schedule an appointment to follow up with a medical provider.”
Waggoner said it is so important to get the checkups and for people to take care of themselves.
“Heart disease remains the number one cause of death in our country,” she said. “Most heart disease happens over time and lifestyle choices like healthy food and physical activity can make a big difference. And of course taking medication can also be important to help keep our numbers in a healthy range. Our goal is to educate and empower individuals to be informed about effects of both positive and negative health habits.”
