FESTIVAL OF THE SUGAR MAPLES
WHEN: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 3-4 and March 10-11
WHERE: Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset Drive, Marengo
COST and INFO: Hosted by the McHenry County Conservation District. Families will learn how maple syrup was made hundreds of years ago, how maple trees produce sap each spring, how sap is collected from maple trees, and how maple syrup is made at the evaporator house. Tours traveling a half-mile trail leave every 15 minutes and take about an hour. Hot chocolate, pure mayle syrup, maple candy and cookies will be available to buy. Dress for the weather. Free admission to the festival. From 7 a.m. to noon before the event on March 4 and 11, the Union Lion’s Club will host a pancake breakfast at the Union Fire Protection District, 6606 Main St., Union.
