CARPENTERSVILLE – A Carpentersville man was charged with possessing 79 grams of marijuana he intended to sell and having a gun in his car, authorities said.
Carpentersville police arrested Daniel Saavedra, 27, of 2000 block of Berkshire Circle, after a traffic stop Sunday, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
During the stop, police discovered the gun and drugs in his car, prosecutors said. He also possessed a digital scale and plastic baggies.
Kane County prosecutors charged Saavedra with armed violence, unlawful possession with an intent to deliver more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to the release. A person who is armed with a gun at the time he or she commits a felony also is charged with armed violence, according to Illinois law.
If convicted of the most serious charge, Saavedra could face 15 years in jail.
Saavedra appeared in Kane County bond court Sunday. A judge set Saavedra’s bail at $50,000. He has been released from custody, authorities said.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28.
