$30M Huntley Springs retirement resort aims to wrap up construction in spring 2019

Village manager hopes project will spur development on east side of Huntley

HUNTLEY – Construction is underway for the Huntley Springs Retirement Community, and officials expect to wrap up the project by spring 2019.

So far, 60 people have signed up to live at the $30 million resort on Powers Road, east of Route 47 and south of Kreutzer Road, said Kelly Jo Hinrichs, director of marketing for Lincoln, Nebraska-based Resort Lifestyle Communities.

“We are getting a very warm reception,” she said.

Village Manager Dave Johnson said seeing the beams in the ground means a lot for the development of that area in town, and he hopes it will spur future businesses to come.

“For people looking to invest here, it’s extremely important to see activity on the east side so companies driving through here don’t go, ‘There’s a lot of cows out there still,’ ” Johnson said.

Construction started in October for the 9.6-acre site. The footings recently were placed in the ground, meaning construction is about a year from completion, Hinrichs said.

The property will have 128 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom rentable apartments. Hinrichs said the independent-living community is geared for people older than age 55.

“[It’s for] anybody who is looking to downsize and ready to forgo all the surprises of homeownership,” Hinrichs said. “Residents can just enjoy the things they want, and we take care of housekeeping and landscaping.”

Offered amenities will include chef-prepared meals and snacks, room service, 24/7 concierge, valet parking and a full calendar of events, including entertainment and seminars.

The community will include a full fitness center, billiards room, communications center and 150-seat movie theater. An in-house bank, salon, gift shop and pharmacy also will be on-site, which will be open to the public.

Maintenance and weekly housekeeping staff also will be on-hand.

Huntley Springs is the first Resort Lifestyle Communities location in Illinois, and it will have 30 employees at its Huntley location.

“We were looking for communities where there wasn’t a concept like the one we are building, which is all-inclusive, no long-term leases,” Hinrichs said. “We charge month to month, with everything included in one fee.”

Huntley also is home to Del Webb’s senior community, Sun City, and the Huntley Horizon Senior Living Community by Alden Realty Services, which includes independent living, skilled nursing and memory care components.
