McHenry’s Liz Alsot and Aannah Interrante and Marian Central’s Vannessa Garrelts were announced as honorable mentions to The Associated Press All-State basketball teams Thursday.
Alsot and Interrante, who helped McHenry to its best season ever at 28-3,
received the honor in Class 4A. The Warriors won the Fox Valley Conference championship for the first time.
Garrelts, who became both Marian’s career and single-season scoring leader, helped the Hurricanes to an 18-14 record. She was honored in Class 3A.
Alsot, a 6-foot center who will play at NCAA Division II Indianapolis next year, passed 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career this season. She averaged 16.3 points and 12.3 rebounds a game and shot close to 60 percent from the field.
Interrante, a 5-11 guard who will play at D-I Bradley, averaged 17.7 points a game and hit 63 3s, while averaging 4.2 assists and 2.7 steals a game.
Garrelts, a 5-4 guard, averaged 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.2 assists, while hitting 65 3s. She will play next season at D-I Miami (Ohio).
