McHENRY – An online tip led to a police investigation and a series of felony child pornography charges for a 22-year-old man from the McHenry area.
Detectives from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Attorney General’s Office went to a house Friday in the 5200 block of Pistakee Drive outside McHenry, where they found computer files containing child pornography, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court.
At least one of the file names suggested a child as young as 5 years old was involved.
Jacob D. Fredericks, of the 5200 block of Pistakee Lake Road, is charged with possessing child pornography, a felony offense typically punishable by three to seven years in prison.
The investigation was launched after the Round Lake Police Department received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office sent Tuesday.
The investigation later was transferred to the sheriff’s office.
Fredericks posted $5,000 bail and was released Saturday from the McHenry County Jail, records show.
His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
