Patient airlifted after crashing vehicle into fertilizer spreader in Union

UNION – A patient was airlifted to a hospital Friday afternoon after crashing into a fertilizer spreader vehicle in Union.

The car hit the fertilizer spreader and went underneath it about 4:45 p.m. east of North Union Road and Route 176, Marengo Fire Lt. Rodney Waits said.

The patient was airlifted by REACT to Mercy Hospital in Rockford, Waits said. The patient’s status was not immediately clear.

The cause of the crash still is under investigation. The farm equipment had minimal damage, but the vehicle that hit it had front-end and roof damage.

The Union Fire Protection District and Marengo Fire Protection District responded.
