13 dogs die in Hampshire barn fire

HAMPSHIRE — Thirteen Australian shepherds died in a barn fire Saturday night in Hampshire.

The Hampshire Fire Protection District responded to a barn fire about 6:55 p.m. at 44W975 Berner Road.

“The barn was already a total loss by the time we arrived,” Lt. Brian Marlowe said.

The homeowner tried to rescue the three adult dogs and ten puppies that were kept in the barn but they did not make it out of the structure, Chief Bill Robinson said.

The owner was treated for smoke inhalation and was released at the scene, Robinson said.

The fire is under investigation by the Kane County Fire Investigative Task Force.
