A car struck and killed a 20-year-old Crystal Lake man Friday night in unincorporated Algonquin Township.
At 8:15 p.m., dispatch sent Cary firefighters to the 1300 block of Main Street to investigate a report of a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt that struck a pedestrian, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews found the man dead on the scene, according to Cary Fire Protection District Lt. Michael Douglass, who could not identify the victim.
"The subject was hit by a car," Douglass said.
A preliminary investigation showed the Chevrolet was traveling west on East Main Street, crested a hill and struck the man who was laying in the roadway, according to the sheriff’s office.
The McHenry County Coroner's office arrived on the scene to transport the victim. McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski was not immediately available to provide information about the crash Saturday.
The driver — a 34-year-old Cary woman — was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in "good condition," Douglass said.
Douglass could not identify the driver or the man. He directed questions to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
