Police investigating body found in Wauconda pond

WAUCONDA – Police are investigating the death of a man who was found face-down in a drainage pond in an unincorporated Wauconda neighborhood Saturday morning.

The man was found near the 2800 block of Garland Road, lying face-down in a shallow point of about a foot of water around 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.

Someone who lived near the pond found the man, who is thought to be 50 to 60 years old. He was found dressed in shorts.

"We don't believe there is anything for residents to be concerned about," Balmes said. "It doesn't appear to be anything criminal."

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, and the man will likely be identified then, Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said.
