Cameron's OT goal gives Skyhawks regional crown

The Johnsburg girls soccer team wins a Class 1A regional title with a 3-2 overtime win over Harvest Christian.

Corin Cameron scored an overtime goal to give the Johnsburg girls soccer team a 3-2 victory over Harvest Christian on Friday in the IHSA Class 1A Johnsburg Regional championship game.

Amber Humphres scored twice in regulation with assists from Cameron and Megan Jurek. It was Humphres’ assist that led to Cameron’s overtime goal.

Goalkeeper Hayley Schmidt made eight saves for the Skyhawks (7-10).

Johnsburg has now won back-to-back Class 1A regional titles. The Skyhawks host the sectional and will play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Dundee-Crown 3, Jacobs 1: At Carpentersville, Chargers pitcher Sydney Ruggles threw a complete game, striking out 11 and walking two. Ruggles allowed one unearned run and two hits.

She also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Alaina Azar went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base for D-C (16-10, 12-4 FVC).

Delaney Garden and Gabriella Silva recorded the only hits for Jacobs (13-11-1, 8-7 FVC).

Marengo 7, Woodstock North 2: At Woodstock, Marengo’s Hannah Ritter clubbed three doubles in a win over North. Ritter also scored four runs.

Pitcher Riley Connell earned the win, striking out seven in 4 1/3 innings for the Indians (19-4, 10-0 KRC).

North’s Ellie Thurow pitched a complete game, striking out 16 and walking one. Taeya Beard hit a home run.

Huntley 12, Prairie Ridge 4: At Crystal Lake, Huntley’s Autumn Kasal hit two home runs and Grace Kutz hit one in a win. Kasal went 3 for 5 with six RBIs.

Kutz finished her day 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Briana Bower pitched five scoreless innings in relief for Huntley (22-5, 11-1 FVC), striking out seven.

Prairie Ridge’s Maddie O’Brien went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Ashleigh Dierking hit a double and drove in two runs for the Wolves (8-13, 5-11 FVC).

Cary-Grove 27, St. Edward 9 (5 inn.): At Fenton, five different Trojans drove in three runs or more in a win over St. Edward. Jazz Flashing hit two home runs in a 5 for 5 day, driving in four runs and scoring four times.

Frankie Cruz and Kelly Johnson each hit home runs. Johnson went 3 for 6, driving in four runs and scoring five. Cruz went 4 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs.

Orangeville 8, Alden-Hebron 2: At Orangeville, Alden-Hebron’s Zoe Deeringer hit a home run for the Giants in a loss. Carly Gritmaker went 1 for 2 and Taylor Horton drew a walk and scored a run.

Derringer pitched all six innings, striking out four for the Giants (6-14).

BASEBALL

Hampshire 6, Dundee-Crown 5 (12 inn.): At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs’ Matthew Jachec singled and later scored on an error in the 12th inning of a walk-off win over Dundee-Crown.

Hampshire (13-15, 5-15 FVC) needed to manufacture runs in the eighth and ninth innings to keep the game going. Jachec finished 2 for 5 with a double and two runs scored. He started the game and pitched six innings, striking out nine and allowing two earned runs.

Nicholas Tenny pitched five innings in relief, while Zach Golden earned the win after one scoreless inning.

D-C (6-22, 3-17 FVC) used six different pitchers in the marathon game. Erik Hedmark hit a double and drove in a run. Zach Hahn drove in two runs.

Marengo 21, Harvard 13: At Harvard, Jake LaSota went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and seven RBIs for Marengo.

Derek Peters went 5 for 5 with two triples and five RBIs. Danny Schenk went 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Indians (8-14, 5-8 KRC).

For Harvard (8-15, 4-10 KRC), Blake Bischke was 4 for 6 with two RBIs and three runs.

Crystal Lake Central 7, Jacobs 4: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers’ Reece Mensching pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned). He struck out three and walked three.

Alec Bolanowski hit two doubles, Jake Staples went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Central (15-14, 9-10 FVC).

For Jacobs (15-10-1, 11-7 FVC), Bryce Vincent had three hits and drove in a run. Cory Dennison was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

GIRLS SOCCER

Woodstock North 3, Richmond-Burton 2: At Woodstock, R-B's Taylor Webb and Bailee Lasch scored goals. Leah Costa had one assist. Goalkeeper Lindsy Restis made nine saves for the Rockets (6-8, 6-6 KRC).

Thursday’s results

McHenry 2, Round Lake 2: At McHenry, Olivia Sacchitello and Mireyah Macias scored goals for the Warriors in a nonconference tie. Gracie Gasmann recorded an assist.
