Suspect in custody after shots fired incident on Woodstock Square

Woodstock police are investigating a shots fired incident Sunday afternoon on the Square.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots about 1 p.m. in the 110 block of Van Buren Street in Woodstock, according to a news release from the department.

Police found a juvenile suspect and took him into custody, the release said. Officers also found the gun they suspected was involved in the incident.

“At the moment, this incident appears to be the result of a ‘negligent discharge’ of a firearm; however, this case is still being actively investigated,” police said in the release. “Charges are pending against the suspect, and more information will be forthcoming.”

The public isn’t in danger, and the incident was isolated, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Woodstock Police Department at 815-338-2131.

Police did not respond to a request for details about the case.
