A Wisconsin man will spend 10 years in prison for his 10th conviction for driving under the influence, prosecutors said.

Raymond A. Puterbaugh, 48, of the 100 block of South Cogswell Drive, Silver Lake, Wisconsin, accepted a plea deal Monday on a charge of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

An investigation into Puterbaugh’s background revealed nine previous DUI convictions in four different states. None of the previous convictions resulted in a prison sentence, according to a news release from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office sent Thursday.

Spring Grove officers stopped Puterbaugh on Jan. 29 when they noticed his vehicle weaving and speeding, according to the release.

He refused to perform field sobriety tests or submit to a breath test, the release stated.

Puterbaugh originally was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated driving under the influence with a revoked license and driving with a revoked license.

He faced as many as 15 years in prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Randi Freese.
