Cat rescued in Wonder Lake kitchen fire

Fire caused $95,000 in damage

Firefighters rescued a cat from the basement of a home ravaged by a kitchen fire Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out about 3:30 p.m. Monday in the 3700 block of Meadow Lane in Wonder Lake, according to Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Michael Weber.

The fire caused $95,000 in damage and displaced a family of four, Weber said. Firefighters contained the blaze in about 15 minutes, and an investigation is ongoing to figure out what caused the fire.

The cat was found in the basement, and firefighters carried it to safety.

The Northwest Herald asked Weber what kind of cat is was.

"A mean one," he said and laughed.
