A boating lesson turned into an inadvertent swimming expedition Wednesday morning.

The Lakewood Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue District responded about 10:35 a.m. Wednesday to 300 Lakeshore Drive at Main Beach in Crystal Lake for a water rescue.

A sailboat with three occupants, including one sailing instructor and two students, had capsized, Lakewood Police Chief Mike Roth said.

No one was injured, Roth said.

“We called the fire department to check, but they were all fine,” he said.

Roth said he wasn’t aware of any damage caused to the boat during the incident, and he didn’t know the exact reason the boat tipped.

“You never know with the wind,” he said.
