Letter: Cartoon was bad idea

To the Editor:

The cartoon on Saturday, June 16, depicting "Progressives" as apes is not only insulting to some of your readers but also will add to the divisiveness between many of your subscribers. As a progressive, I am appalled.

Resisting a President who demeans members of the free press, attacks the Justice Department, admires dictators wishing his "people" would follow suit, imprisons children tearing them from their parents at the border, calls our allies weak and liars, appoints people to cabinet posts that are polar opposites of the Departments they run, is reversing the clean air and water acts, is failing to protect those with preexisting conditions when getting health insurance, is planning to allow the Republican run Congress the ability to eventually destroy Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to pay for the tax cuts, and is calling reporters obnoxious should give every citizen pause.

I do not agree with those who say (expletive) Trump, but I do believe we must resist against behavior contrary to who we are as Americans. We must stand up against this President's attack on the fabric of our Democracy: Freedom of speech, the press, the rule of law and preservation of the three branches of government.

We must take a stand for decency and respect for all those who seek asylum in our country, that is who we are as Americans no matter if progressive or conservative.
