4 Woodstock businesses fail alcohol compliance checks

Four Woodstock businesses sold alcohol to minors during a recent compliance check.

Woodstock police conducted the checks Wednesday at 28 businesses, according to a news release.

Businesses that were not compliant include: Red Iron Tavern, 101 Church St.; Mixteca Grill, 1390 S. Eastwood Drive; Jewel-Osco, 145 S. Eastwood Drive; and Aldi, 410 S. Eastwood Drive, police said.

The employees who served alcohol to the minors were issued a city of Woodstock Municipal Code Violation citation and must appear at an administrative hearing July 12 at Woodstock City Hall.

Woodstock police perform these checks to determine if local liquor license holders are complying with state and local laws, which prohibit the sale of alcohol to those younger than 21 years old.

The city regularly educates local alcohol retailers on alcohol laws and the importance of verifying a customer’s age, police said.
