Families in and around Marengo will have a new event to participate in as Summerfest kicks off Saturday.
The free event will be from noon to 10 p.m. at 101 Franks Road behind Glo-Bowl Fun Center. Activities include a beer tent, live music, inflatables, a petting zoo, touch-a-truck, games, a bags tournament, bingo and fireworks.
Food trucks also will be on-site, including Fat Tomato Inc., Perk n’ Pickle, Legit Dogs and Ice, The Olive Branch, JPG Concessions Inc. and Station 4 BBQ and Grill.
The event was funded entirely through donations from local businesses and community members, Mayor John Koziol said.
“The City Council had budgeted some money as a fallback, but fundraising efforts paid for all of it,” Koziol said.
He said he is happy to bring a fireworks show to the city.
“We are pretty excited about it,” Koziol said. “It has been many years since Marengo has had fireworks, so we are excited to bring it back and get it going.”
Drivers will be able to park at Marengo Community Middle School, Marengo High School and on the grass behind the Glo-Bowl Fun Center. The parking areas are accessible from Prospect Street, Lindow Lane and Franks Road off Route 20.
The fireworks show will be across the street at the high school, and people can sit in the football field grandstands or the grassy area of the baseball field.
Jim & Justin, The Wooden Rockers and Creepy Uncle Jack are scheduled to play music at the festival.
Jim & Justin will perform from noon to 3 p.m., The Wooden Rockers will take the stage from 3:30 to 6 p.m., and Creepy Uncle Jack will play from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
