Steve Connell, a retired high school physics teacher, actor and founder of the Right-Center-Left Production Company, is fulfilling his dream of bringing a dinner theater experience to McHenry County between July 13 and Aug. 4.
Connell, a member of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, whose congregation supports this endeavor by lending him their Fellowship Hall to stage his shows there, is producing two shows this summer: the lively and romantic musical, “Once Upon a Mattress” (based on the fairytale, “The Princess and the Pea”) and Moliere’s classic comedy, “Tartuffe.”
“Once Upon a Mattress” will run July 13-15, 27-29 and Aug. 3-4 while “Tartuffe” is planned for July 20-22.
Evening performances begin with a dinner of chicken scampi with rice, salad and a dessert. Matinee performances serve dessert at intermission.
The dinner portion of the ticket cost is donated to global and local charities that are supported by the church’s mission team and members. This year, the shows benefit Living Waters for the World, the Old Firehouse Assistance Center and the McHenry County Homelessness Project.
Ticket prices range from $10 to $40, which includes student and senior discounts and group rates.
