To the Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the precinct committeemen who attended the McHenry County Republican Convention. I especially wish to express my sincere gratitude to those precinct committeemen who committed to support me for Chairman and who followed through on their commitment. For those individuals who are not familiar with the process of how a Chairman is selected, it is important to know that it is the precinct committeemen who select the Chairman of the party. Precinct committeemen should hold themselves to the highest standards and accountable to the people who elected them.
The vote to elect the leadership of the party is weighted. The combination of the votes of those precinct committeemen who were unable to attend and those who had committed their support and did not follow through on their commitment, could have resulted in a different outcome.
As the national and state GOP struggles for unity, so do we in McHenry County. I, along with many of my fellow precinct committeemen had hoped to create the model for unity. We have a true and heartfelt desire to put an end to the acrimony and the pursuit of self-interests that have created an atmosphere of discord within our county party. It is especially disheartening to be the subject of personal attacks made on blogs by individuals who hide behind anonymity and spew malicious and at times, untruthful venom. If you have the courage of your convictions or any courage at all, why don’t you identify yourselves so that we can raise the level of decorum and discourse.
We need to return the Republican Party to its rightful place as the party of integrity, unity, tradition and relevance.
