The Woodstock Police Department recently conducted tobacco sales compliance checks on every establishment that sells tobacco within the city of Woodstock.
Of the establishments checked, one was found to be in violation and sold tobacco to persons younger than 18.
The establishment that was found not to be compliant was Circle K, 155 S. Eastwood Drive.
The store employee who sold the tobacco product to the juvenile at Circle K was issued a City of Woodstock Municipal Code Violation Citation and issued a Must Appear Administrative Hearing date of July 12 at the Woodstock City Hall. The check was performed June 27.
Compliance checks are performed by the Woodstock Police Department to determine if businesses are complying with state and local tobacco laws that prohibit the sale, purchase and possession of tobacco products to persons younger than 18.
When conducting alcohol and tobacco compliance checks, the underage minor is instructed not to intentionally lie or deceive the clerk if questioned about his/her age and if requested the minor will use his or her actual Illinois State-issued identification card.
