Serwatka said he plans to step down this summer, but still no concrete date

Lakewood Village President Paul Serwatka said he’s “getting close” to stepping down but hasn’t chosen the exact date to do it.

Serwatka said he’s going to spend the summer going back-and-forth between Lakewood and his new home out of state.

“My goal was July originally,” Serwatka told the Northwest Herald on Wednesday, adding that he still plans to step down this summer.

Serwatka has faced intense criticism from village trustees and locals for making plans to move without stepping down. He’s cited high property taxes on his home in the Turnberry subdivision as his reason for moving to Alabama. He said his family is already there.

On Tuesday, the Village Board meeting was canceled, and Serwatka said that wasn’t his fault. He said it’s ironic people are concerned about his whereabouts because he was the one prepared to attend the meeting.

“We have four trustees all out of town,” Serwatka said, adding that he was in the village. “I would have been there. ... It had nothing to do with me.”

Serwatka said out of concern for the men and women waiting for board approval to begin construction projects, he will try to gather trustees for a special meeting July 17.

The official time and date of the meeting had not been set as of Wednesday morning.
