To promote bike safety among children, the Fox Lake Police Department is hosting a bike rodeo July 21.

The event will take place from
10 a.m. to noon at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake.

The event is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Attendees can enjoy snacks, prizes, bicycle safety checks, helmet checks and more.

Fox Lake police officers will be handing out informational flyers about safe bike riding habits. Assistant Village Administrator Laura Linehan said an emphasis on bike safety early on is imperative.

“The earlier we educate kids on safety, the more responsible they will be as adults,” Linehan said. “It’ll also make the parents continue the safety conversation with their kids.”
