If you are a sustainable farmer looking for land or a landowner looking to lease you may find luck with an upcoming meet-up.
The Liberty Prairie Foundation in conjunction with the Land Conservancy of McHenry County and Openlands plan to host a Woodstock event to connect farmers and landowners.
The next Common Ground gathering will be at 6:30 p.m. July 24 at Soulful Prairies Farm, 4706 Alden Road, Woodstock.
The annual event is meant to be a casual social gathering where farmers and landowners will have a chance to meet and talk about future opportunities.
Local farmer Will Glazik, who co-founded the IDEA Farm Network where farmers can share information on sustainable growing techniques, will present at the meeting. Jaci Davis, a landowner and farmer in east central Illinois also will talk at the event.
“Together these three organizations have done quite a bit of work trying to identify the major roadblocks to a successful local food system for our region,” Openlands communications manager Patrick Williams said. “One of the major challenges is access to land for new and sustainable farmers, so we are trying to help facilitate a network between them and the landowners.”
Registration is required. Tickets cost $10 a person.
