Boat crash caused Sunday near-drowning incident, police say

A 6-year-old was seriously injured Sunday

A 19-year-old Algonquin man piloting an 18-foot Bayliner toward a dock Sunday at the Picnic Grove Park beach in unincorporated Fox River Grove ran over and seriously injured a 6-year-old Cary boy, McHenry County Sheriff's Office officials said Monday.

Fox River Grove police and fire departments, the sheriff's office and Flight for Life responded to the scene at 598 Birch Lane about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The boy was swimming and dove underneath the murky water and the boater drove over him, sheriff's office officials said.

The child was seen floating unconcious shortly after and was pulled from the water. Once he was on the beach, bystanders began performing CPR, sheriff's office officials said.

The boy was taken by Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol isn't considered a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit.
