Child transported via Flight for Life after near drowning in Fox River Grove

A 6-year-old was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital after he nearly drowned Sunday at the Picnic Grove Park beach in Fox River Grove.

The Fox River Grove police and fire departments, along with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Family and bystanders reported to officials the boy had been under water for up to 10 minutes before his rescue. The beach was busy Sunday with boats and beachgoers, and the child’s family had lost sight of him, officials said.

When the fire department arrived on the scene, someone was performing CPR on the boy. The fire department took over and revived and stabilized him while Flight for Life was en route.

Fire department officials didn’t know the cause of the incident.
