Letter: Check out LGBTQ voting records

To the Editor:

The month of June was a month to celebrate the LGBTQ community and it was a month to celebrate equality. Given this, however, more politicians have become vocal about their stance on what LGBTQ right are, and I recognize Representative Peter Roskam, has failed to support the protection of LGBTQ rights.

Roskam voted 'no' on enforcing against anti-gay hate crimes in 2009. Now we've all grown up knowing the fact that church is always separate from the state; the First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.¨

What people don't realize is that there are not any non-religious reasons against same-sex marriage and the protection of LGBTQ rights. I do not want a man who represents the people of my district to put religion over the U.S. Constitution; therefore, it is very important for us to vote in the upcoming election against these unconstitutional opinions.
